The process of curing urushi with high heat instead of humidity used for heat resistant substrates such as metal and ceramics. Urushi is applied to the surface and subjected to temperatures of approximately 150°C to 200°C. The heat may be applied evenly by placing the entire piece in an oven or it may be heated with a torch as is the case with the metal patina technique nuri-iro. The term is also used for a form of heat gilding.
