A powder of different grit made from dried urushi. Fine powder version is sometimes used as a pigment or a consistency modifier. Coarser fractions are used in the ishime (ishime-kanshitsu) technique or other textured techniques. Can be used for maki-e and specifically the iroko maki-e technique.
