Jinoko

A natural clay or powder used as part of the foundation (shitaji) of urushi, using the jitsuke technique. There are several types of jinoko; a clay based type used by mixing with water into a paste and combining with ki-urushi,  diotomaceous type used by combining with noriurushi.
