Wajima-nuri

Wajima-nuri is lacquerware from Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture, known for durable foundations, many-layer construction, and high-quality decorative work such as maki-e and chinkin. Its strength is closely tied to local foundation materials and techniques, especially the use of jinoko in the shitaji layers.
