Nanako-nuri

Nanako-nuri is a Tsugaru-nuri technique that creates a pattern of small circular marks reminiscent of fish roe. Seeds such as rapeseed, hemp, or mustard are placed into wet lacquer to form tiny craters; after additional colored layers are applied, the surface is polished back to reveal the dotted pattern.
