Suruga-zumi

Suruga-zumi is a traditional charcoal used for fine grinding and polishing in urushi work. Like other polishing charcoals, it is selected and shaped for specific surfaces and stages. Its value comes from the way it cuts lacquer softly and controllably, allowing the maker to refine the surface without leaving harsh scratches.
