Nayashi

Nayashi is the kneading or homogenizing stage in urushi refining. It breaks down and smooths the lacquer structure, helping create a more uniform texture before or during water reduction. Good nayashi improves flow and consistency; careless processing can introduce defects or make the lacquer harder to use.
