Ji-maki

Ji-maki is the sprinkling of powder over a broader ground or background area rather than only over drawn design lines. It can create a field of metal, color, or texture that supports the main decoration. Control of powder density, particle size, and lacquer tack determines whether the ground reads as soft, dense, sparkling, or atmospheric.
