Nashiji

(Nashi-ji). Transparent yellowish lacquer used for layers in maki-e and other techniques, frequently with metal powders. Its colour comes from gamboge. Pear-skin effect can be achieved (nashiji-nuri). Used with silver powdres makes them warmer in colour, so the design looks more like gold.
