Some time ago looking for nice “base” pens for lacquering I found Namisu. Their model Horizon is made of aluminium, titanium or ebonite. I bought 3 of them, 2 ebonite and one aluminium. Working with aluminium version was much more difficult than I expected – lacquering metals requires different approach, curing of base layers with heat, not humidity, a different approach to base and middle layers. Otherwise, lacquer will easily peel off. But thi for another time
One of ebonite pens I decided to lacquer including metal elements at ends of barrel and cap. Below you can see original pen, too. This also was a long process. But finaly got to middle and top layers, and video below shows one of the processes – sealing gold powder with thin layer of urushi – mixture of kijiro, kijomi and turpentine.
