Bengara (弁柄 [bengara])

Bengara is iron oxide red pigment, historically one of the most reliable traditional colorants in urushi. It produces warm reds ranging from brick to reddish-brown depending on formulation and particle size. Bengara is valued for compatibility with urushi curing and for its classic harmony with black lacquer and gold decoration.
