Chinkin-nomi (沈金ノミ / 沈金鑿 [chinkin nomi])
Chinkin-nomi are chisels used for chinkin carving, made in many profiles to create different line widths and textures. The geometry and polish of the cutting edge strongly determine how cleanly cured lacquer cuts and how well the groove holds urushi and metal. Chinkin-nomi are typically used with careful depth control to keep lines consistent across curved surfaces.
