Funzutsu (粉筒 [funzutsu])

Funzutsu is a tube used to sprinkle powders—especially metal powders—in maki-e (蒔絵 [maki-e]). The end is typically covered with fine silk or mesh to control particle flow, allowing even dusting or targeted application. Control of tapping, angle, humidity, and powder grading determines the smoothness and uniformity of the sprinkled layer.
