Kanshitsu-fun

Kanshitsu-fun is powder made from fully cured urushi, sorted into fractions by particle size. Fine fractions can modify color, body, or texture and may be used in iroko-style maki-e; medium and coarse fractions create relief, stone-like texture, or ishime effects. The chosen fraction strongly affects sparkle, surface height, sanding behavior, and how much clear lacquer is needed to bury or level the texture.
