Suri-urushi (擦り漆 [suri-urushi])

Suri-urushi is another name for wipe lacquer, essentially synonymous with fuki-urushi (拭き漆 [fuki-urushi]). The lacquer is rubbed into the surface and wiped back to a thin layer, building durability and depth gradually. The finish emphasizes material character and tactile naturalness rather than thick film build.
