Toishi-ko

Toishi-ko is whetstone powder used for early polishing and leveling stages such as dozuri. Traditionally it comes from ground polishing stones, while modern equivalents may use controlled abrasive powders such as aluminum oxide. The grade must be matched to the stage of work: too coarse leaves scratches, too fine may polish before the surface is properly leveled.
