Dozuri (胴摺り [dōzuri])
Dozuri is an early polishing/leveling stage in lacquer finishing, typically using fine polishing powders such as tonoko (砥の粉 [tonoko]) with oil. Seciali formulated powders (dozuriko) in several grit are used more and more often. Its purpose is to flatten micro-unevenness and unify the surface before higher gloss stages. Dozuri sets the foundation for a clean final polish by removing subtle waviness and preparing an even scratch pattern.
