Okime

The method of transferring the outline of a design onto a lacquer surface, used in maki-e and chinkin techniques. The design is drawn onto a thin transparent paper, traced with lacquer (e-urushi) on the reverse then pressed (with wooden spatula, brush or hand) onto the object to be decorated.
