Togidashi maki-e

Togidashi maki-e is polished-out maki-e: the design is made with lacquer and sprinkled powder, then covered with additional lacquer layers and polished back until the decoration reappears flush with the surface. The result is smooth, durable, and integrated into the lacquer film rather than sitting in raised relief.
